As I mentioned in my post “A Roadtrip to Start the Season” we have parked our caravan here in “Pontresina” (1815 metres above sea level) and are now spending the kids summer holidays up here. Today we decided to walk to a waterfall on the opposite side of the lake. I’ve seen the waterfall on my morning dog strolls and couldn’t wait to go exploring… Our Sunny, couldn’t resist the lake and someone else enjoyed the simple pleasure of a dandelion… … even with a couple of distractions on the way, we reached our destination in about 45 minutes. In no time at all the kids were busy stacking stones like the ones that were scattered around the base of the waterfall. (I’m sure my blogging buddy Mike will like them, check his post). They were so busy, that they completely forgot about the time and I had to drag them away with the promise, that we’d go back another day.
We’re spending the weekend in the Appenzellerland (an area in the east part of Switzerland). A beautiful spot! So join us on our hike down the “hoher Kasten” and see for yourselves (that is when the clouds aren’t in the way)… We started in “Brülisau” (921 metres above sea level) and took the cable car up to the top of the “Hoher Kasten” (1’784.5 metres above sea level). From there we hiked back down the mountain. A hike that takes about 1 and a half hours (if you walk all the way). …nearly down, time for some refuelling at the restaurant “Ruhesitz”… The boys decided to have a little fun on the last couple of kilometres of the hike. They rented scooters at the restaurant and whizzed off down to “Brülisau”… ..and the rest of us walked and enjoyed the authentic and beautiful scenery.
It’s New Years Eve. The kids are very excited about the idea of staying up until midnight (I’m not quite sure if they’ll all make it). So to burn off a bit of the extra energy, we took them for a walk…well we’ll see if it works… Dear Readers, This is my last post for this year. A chance for me to thank you for joining in on my experiences, adventures and culinary experiments, and also for your comments and contributions. I wish you all a very Happy New Year!
Yup! We’ve got the camping bug and are back at our favourite lakeside campsite in the Klöntal. After enjoying ourselves so much last time, we packed our stuff on Friday and headed off to the mountains. This time we couldn’t resist a hike in our panoramic surroundings. So on Saturday we got our walking boots on and took the path up towards the “Chäsalp”… …but half way up the steep climb, we decided to take a ridgeway path to “Richisau”. We thought it would be easier for the kids… (we weren’t the only ones out for a climb) …what we didn’t realise, was that parts of the ridgeway path really were on a ridge… …but all the hard work was well worth it for this view… …and of course for this delicious piece of chocolate cake! After the long and adventurous hike we took the easy way back… …the good old “Postauto”. MerkenMerken MerkenMerken
It’s been absolutely pouring down with rain for the last couple of days, so it’s great to leave my wellies in the garage and head up the hill with my furry friend in glorious sunshine… …from busy bees to lazy lizards… …and a refreshing bath to end a perfect walk!
We had an extremely cold and foggy morning today, you could hardly see from one lamppost to the next! Thankfully the sun has managed to burn it up this afternoon, so with blue skies beckoning we (my daughter, dog and I) headed off up the hill to enjoy some warm sunshine… …and it was fantastic! I should probably have taken some sunglasses to go with my wooly hat and gloves.
It’s a bit foggy this afternoon, the sun is trying to burn it up but isn’t having much luck. No reason though for staying indoors. We decided to go for a walk in the vineyards behind our house… With her big brothers at school our daughter decided to play hide and seek with our dog… “Where has she gone?” “Below you!” Shortly after we got back the boys came home from school. They heard all about our walk and felt a bit left out…so to compensate we cooked some marshmallows over a fire in the back garden. Simply enjoying autumn!
It’s the kids autumn break and we’re staying at our friends chalet in Sörenberg. The weather is a bit touch and go today so we spent the morning lazing around and at midday we took the cable car up the mountain for lunch so that we could hike down again afterwards. To our surprise and the kids amusement there was a brass band playing at the restaurant… . …but after a while the novelty wore off and we were ready to head down the mountain. Back at the chalet, we obviously didn’t tire the kids out enough as they’re outside playing table tennis in the rain (I’m not quite sure how that can appeal but I’m not complaining as we’ve got a fire going and I’ve got some peace and quiet to write this post).
Yup! Autumn is here. The temperatures have cooled down and the rain has set in. But that’s not stopping us from enjoying a wet walk. After we had dried off, stocked the fireplace with wood, and brewed some coffee. Our two little ones had woken up and were ready for some fun…
With the dog needing a walk and the kids some fresh air. We headed off up the hill behind our house. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as good as forecasted so we had to take cover a couple of times. But as soon as they saw the swing, they couldn’t have been less bothered about the weather, quite the opposite they were enjoying themselves so much that didn’t want to go home (pleeeeease Mummy just one more go)… …little adventures on the way… …and of course The Swing! While the boys couldn’t get enough our youngest took a break. Wheeeee! Look at me! After a lot more swinging it was finally time to go home with the promise to come back soon…
