A Roadtrip to Start the Season

At last! We packed our stuff, hooked our caravan up and headed off to our Summer season campsite. Our journey started in Schneisingen (where our caravan is parked) and went right through Switzerland, up to the mountain village of Silvaplana (1815 meters above sea level). It’s quite an adventure for us, as: -we’ve never driven our caravan onto a car shuttle train before (the pass road has to many steep turns) -we’ve never camped at this altitude (snow possible even in Summer) -and we’ve never parked our caravan at a campsite for a whole season (middle of April until the middle of October) Well we’re always good for an adventure so here goes… The journey from Schneisingen to Klosters wasn’t very eventful (except for the scenery)… The car shuttle train took us from Klosters, 19 kilometers through the Vereina tunnel to Sagliains, in the middle of the beautiful Engadin. Only a couple more Kilometers to go… Made it! The kids were great (to excited to argue), no breakdowns or mishaps (although the road got a …

Glamping at Lake Constance

After spending my childhood holidays camping and now taking our kids camping, we have decided that it’s time to upgrade. Goodbye to damp tents and punctured airbeds…hello warm, dry, cosy caravan. Let the adventures begin! After hitching up the caravan and driving for three hours (mainly on the motorway but towards the end we had a couple of roundabouts, quite a challenge!) to “Kressbronn” where we are spending our autumn break at a campsite on the shore of Lake Constance. While we set up our camp, the kids disappeared off to do some exploring… …we hadn’t seen them for while (I went to take some pics while they where busy). Only for them to turn up a couple of hours later wanting food. We hadn’t quite worked out how everything in the kitchen worked (gas cooker the least of our problems, water pumps and fridge needed to be set up). So instead of reading the manual (a big, fat file), we treated them and ourselves to a meal out. A perfect start to our holiday!

Camping in the Klöntal

It’s a bank holiday, so we took the kids camping in the mountains. It was the first camping trip for our little ones (not counting camping in the back garden). They were very excited! After breakfast we packed the car…the cats were very intrigued, fortunately we have very nice neighbours (thank you Cécile and Nils) who took care of them for us, while we were away. With everything sorted, it was time for the adventure to begin.. After about an hour drive we arrived at the camping “Vorauen” in the Klöntal. After unpacking the car and setting up the tent, it was time to explore… …first down to the lake (the water level was extremely low for this time of the year due to the dry weather we’ve been having)… …and then off to the waterfall. After all the excitement of the day, we enjoyed a relaxing evening in front of our campfire in the spectacular scenery of the Klöntal. We all slept very well and woke up to another glorios day! But unfortunately, after breakfast …

Cosy Campfire

Autumn is on our doorstep, the gras and trees are turning to a dull shade of green and the flowers are fading. So making the most of the dry weather, we headed off to the woods for a walk. We collected pinecones and dry branches to make a campfire… …the kids absolutely loved it and after a run around the woods, what better way to recharge those batteries than with a campfire cooked sausage! …On her best behavior… (or maybe it was a pose to pounce on anything that hit the floor), but fortunatly our youngest took pity on her a gave her a bit of hers.
