Whitsun Roses, well not really…

In swissgerman we call these “pfingschtrose” – whitsun roses, which I find very appropriate as they bloom on whitsun as you can see from the ones in our garden and even more so from the ones in our home. That’s why I think they should be renamed, as well as the fact that I can never remember what that they are called.

I mean who thought of the name peony?!
O.k. I’ve checked wikipedia:

“The peony is named after Paeon (also spelled Paean), a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. Asclepius became jealous of his pupil; Zeus saved Paeon from the wrath of Asclepius by turning him into the peony flower.”

Alright, that doesn’t held at all! Enjoy my whitsun roses…
